NFIRS 5.0 modules gather collections of elements into transactions by discipline. This allows NFIRS to process the wide variety of incident types that fire departments respond to. Fire, Medical, Hazmat, Rescue, and many more. An EMS Patient module, for example, contains information on the EMS Patient. An EMS incident would be recorded using the ‘basic module’ (which represents an incident; times/locations etc.) plus one or more ‘EMS Patient modules’. All incidents require the ‘basic module’.
NFIRS 5.0 modules (containing transactions which contain elements) are the high level building blocks of the NFIRS records. They also were (historically) the paper forms that were used before electronic transmission.
