NFIRS Codes Cheat Sheet - NFIRS Coding - NFIRS Examples - FDIDs - POCs
Definition: Some properties have multiple uses, e.g. a farm has both residential and farming uses. Please see ‘property use’ for the precise one at which the incident occurred.
Purpose: Documenting an incident that occurs on a property with more than one use is important to better identify the overall or main use of the property in which emergency incidents occur. Knowing the overall property use allows for better analysis of incident causes and targeting of prevention strategies. It also is important information for use in code development and enforcement as well as for inspection activities.

Element Type | Coded Field - The coded field relating to an entry in the code table. Most coded fields allow for Plus+ One codes. For these fields the expected length of the coded entry is depicted as (National length OR Plus+ One length). Only fields with this notation in the expected length column allow for Plus+ One definitions. If the user has not provided information, an empty field should be transmitted. |
