NFIRS 5.0 Element: ‘Building Width’

Definition: Main Floor Size: The width of the main floor in square feet. This is an estimate.

Purpose: Main floor size, combined with other structural characteristics, is useful for evaluating firefighting operations and the need to allocate resources based on size and complexity of structures. It also helps in understanding the potential life and property at risk.

Element Type Numeric - Integer numbers (no decimal points). If the user has not provided information, an empty field should be transmitted. All integer values are assumed to be positive. Any fields which allow a negative integer value have been denoted with ‘+ or –’ in the comment field. Negative numbers should be transmitted with the minus sign preceding the digits. - Maximum length 4 characters
