Definition: Main Floor Size: The size of the main floor in square feet. This is an estimate.
Purpose: Main floor size, combined with other structural characteristics, is useful for evaluating firefighting operations and the need to allocate resources based on size and complexity of structures. It also helps in understanding the potential life and property at risk.

NFIRS 5.0 relational edit validation rules are provided to ensure NFIRS data is consistent and correct for the fire/reporting concepts that are being modeled. Relational edits determine relationships between multiple fields / elements. These are the rules for ‘Total Square Feet’.
