Community Communications

In 2013 we experienced a significant flash flood that destroyed our primary highway and gave our community challenges for months. As we started working a continuous day and night incident we quickly created our community communications infrastructure for communicating with the public:

We started with a website and a mailing list (so our community could connect to us directly) and then we supplemented with social media. Here are our tools:

• Our primary communications is via our CCCVFD Website … a wordpress website with a “news feed” (also known as a blog, RSS feed)
• A Mailchimp mailing list sends emails to subscribers … which we connected to an automatic email campaign from our ‘announcement’ category sub-feed.
• Our Facebook page … this was big in 2013, and during the flood, but achieves far less reach in 2022.
• Our Twitter/X feed … for those who utilize this service, to support choices.
• Our Nextdoor page is like the other social media, but is growing in value since Nextdoor emails our community, improving reach. ( We uploaded a GIS boundary of our district and entered the Nextdoor Public Agencies Program for this.)
• Last but far from least we promote the County Emergency Notifications systems for real-time emergency communications.

Communicating with the public is part of our role as an emergency response organization. We attempt to meet the pubic where they are, offering choices of where and how they hear from us.
