NERIS Draft Specification

Incident Core Specification

The NERIS incident core specification details the main (core) aspects of the incident.

 
 

Data Framework

The data framework provides fields and definitions for the data.

General

  • incident_number - Unique numeric identifier for the event that requires dispatch of department resources
  • location_type - Location category of incident
  • use_type - Specific use type of the location type selection for the incident
  • use_status - Status of use type during incident
  • property_year_constructed - The year the property was constructed
  • property_floor_count - The number of floors the property contains
  • property_stories_below_grade - The total number of stories below grade
  • property basement_access - If any below grade floors, is there exterior access to to below grade floor
  • property_unit_count - The number of units in the structure
  • property_sqf - The square footage of the property
  • property_parcel_size - The square footage of the parcel on which the property sits
  • incident_type_category - The final incident type category as assessed on scene
  • incident_type_final - The final incident type as assessed on scene  
     

Casualties

  • civilian_casualties_injuries - The number of civilian injuries that occurred during the incident
  • civilian_casualties_deaths - The number of civilian deaths that occurred during the incident
  • personnel_casualties_injuries - The number of fire department injuries that occurred during the incident
  • personnel_casualties_deaths - The number of fire department deaths that occurred during the incident  
     

Outcomes

  • actions_taken - The actions taken by the fire department on the scene of the incident
  • mayday_called - Was a mayday called as part of the incident operations  
     

Narrative

  • narrative - Free text narrative of incident  
     

Weather

  • weather_id - National Weather Service Station ID
  • weather_type - Standard NWS codes for weather type
  • wind_speed - Velocity of wind in miles per hour
  • wind_direction - Direction of wind by predominate direction
